Ideas For Family Travel

Traveling with the family can be a joyous experience and there is no reason to leave your recycling attitudes at home; you can do your part even when you’re far from the comforts of home.

When you’re staying in a hotel or B&B, let the management of the hotel know that you will be reusing your towels and there is no need to have the bed linens changed daily. With a family, towels can get mixed up and there is an easy way to prevent that; from home, get a couple of safety pins and some beads. Put beads on the safety pins, one design for each family member and when you get to the hotel, simply pin each towel with a beaded safety pin to identify the different ones. Just reusing your towels for a few days will greatly impact the time and money that goes into running the laundry everyday.

Be sure to turn off all lights when you are leaving the hotel room, and any TVs or radios that may be plugged in and running. It’s easy to be distracted in a space that is not your home and it would be just as easy to forget the ways you conserve energy at home when you’re not there. If you find you leave the room with a light on, leave yourself a note right by the door, reminding yourself to check the lights before you walk out the door. There are some hotels that even do this for you, where they have a magnet that they leave on the door, at eye level, reminding you if you’ve turned off the lights.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

Bring your own soap, shampoo and conditioner and leave the little bottles to be reused by guests who do not remember to bring their own. Soap travels really well in a plastic sandwich bag with a zip-lock and besides, wouldn’t you want your own choice of soap smells?

Along the same lines as remembering to turn out the lights, remember to turn down the heat/AC that will be running when you’re not in the room. And a further way to keep the room temperatures comfortable is to remember to close the drapes when you’re out of the room, most hotels have heavy drapes that will keep a cool room cool longer, if they’re closed.

Instead of leaving the light (and fan) on overnight, bring a little nightlight with you and you will save a lot by not running a rooms full light (and fan) on while you sleep. Have a permenant marker with you and assign one of the plastic cups to each person in your family when you arrive at the room. There is no reason to have dishwashing services when the plastic cups are sanitary and are perfectly capable of being reused. Avoid room service for the same reason, there is no need to have excess dishes to wash that would normally not be used. When you eat in the restaurant, they’re already doing the dishes there.

Remember that you can still have all the home values you practice at home when you’re on the road with your family. Keep recycling!

Crossword Puzzles for Children Development

Generally, puzzles are good tools for the development of young children especially their motor skills and cognitive development. Puzzles like jigsaw are quite popular since the shape sorting and image grouping exercise improves their problem solving skills. Crossword puzzles for children development is also a recognized approach. Of course, the applicability and difficulty of crossword puzzles to be used in order to have the most significant impact will depend on the child’s age and probably their level of learning.

It is indeed important for children to be presented with puzzles appropriate to their age group. The reason behind this is the fact that children can easily become frustrated if they are unable to solve problems or puzzles. This only means that their level of development is not yet ready for a puzzle that complex. It would be best, therefore, to reduce the level of difficulty of the kind of crossword puzzles you give your child.

Other puzzles promote motor skills, but with crosswords memory, language and numeric skills are the ones being honed. With these kinds of puzzles, you don’t leave the problem solving to your child alone. You do the problem solving exercise together at first and eventually reduce the number of times you help him/her until such time that your child can solve the crossword on their own. If children are able to solve puzzles on their own on a regular basis, they feel a sense of accomplishment and they will feel good of themselves.

The best time to learn about Crossword Puzzles is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Crossword Puzzles experience while it’s still free.

In terms of levels, the crossword puzzles should be given to children ages of around seven or younger. At this age, your child is able to identify words and phrases and will be able to understand the clues. Younger kids will learn the blocks of objects puzzles as well as word search puzzles first. And as they grow older, they will move up the ladder of puzzles like the jigsaw and then when they grow a few years older, the crossword would be the one they will tackle next. Crossword puzzles will teach your kid vocabulary, reasoning skills, spelling, and word attack skills.

Parents can easily get some crossword puzzles on the Web. The newspaper published puzzles might be too difficult for your child. Get them the appropriate puzzles or you can create one yourself. Child development experts have already recognized the importance of building vocabulary knowledge and word power through the use of crossword puzzles. The parents can have a specific theme for each crossword puzzle. That would be easier for the kids. Crosswords that have themes like animals in the zoo, pets, shapes, colors, and basic verbs and nouns or even objects found in the room , kitchen or dining area are some interesting theme for children. These puzzles also encourage them to look around their environment and identify the things they see.

Just remember that these kinds of puzzles are just to create a spark of interest in your children. You don’t have to force them to accept the puzzles that you present. Encourage them, that is the main idea. They might protest at some point but let them be. Create more interesting puzzles to keep them interested.

If you find the puzzles to be too easy for them, increase the difficulty of the puzzles you make the next time around. Always observe your kids and see what works for them now.

Types of Magic Tricks

Magic tricks aim to astonish and bewilder people. They are illusions that aim to entertain a large number of people or just a single person. They can be done in close proximity or with the aid of a large stage at a certain distance from its audience. However the trick is done, successful magic is one that can keep audiences wonder in awe at what has just happened.

There are many different types of magic tricks that performers practice and use to entertain and to astonish. Different magicians try to specialize in one or a couple of the different methods in order to master. Different types of magic usually take years to learn and to master. Here are some of the different types if magic tricks that magicians try to perform and master.

Stage Magic

Stage magic is probably the most popular of all types of magic. Also known as platform magic or stand-up magic, stage magic generally refers to magic being performed for a medium to a large number of spectators. It can either be indoors or out of doors. But what makes stage magic different is that it usually makes use of a number of props to help the magician perform his illusions.

Street Magic

Street magic is a form of magic that usually is performed quite randomly while walking down the street. Street performances are characterized by a lack of big props usually being used in stage magic. What props may be used by a street magician might be something that one can bring in his pockets. What makes street magic so appealing to most people is that it requires a closer interaction with the audience who may happen to be passing by the street. It may also take the magician some considerable skill to master since it may be quite difficult to perform most magic tricks with the audience being so close to see each trick or illusion.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Magic Tricks than you may have first thought.

Escape Magic

Escape magic is another form or technique used in performing that deals with a variety of tricks that involves confinement or restraints. This type of magic is also known as escapology with the performer usually allows himself to be tied up or confined into a cramped space and locked from the outside. The magic trick stems from the ability of the magician to escape from such restraints without the obvious use of tools despite seemingly insurmountable odds that he finds himself in.

Mentalism

Mentalism is another form of magic where the magician tries to create the impression in the minds of the audience that he possesses special abilities to read thoughts, predict events or control the minds of others. Mentalist feats can either be done with a large or solitary audience, on a stage or close-up.

Theatrical Seances

A theatrical seance is that branch of magic that makes use of spiritualistic or mediumistic methods for effect. It is not usually “spiritual” in nature but is merely meant purely fore theatrical purposes. Magicians who follow this method usually lead the audience to believe that they are conjuring up spirits.

Unfortunately, this is a form of stage magic that is often misused by many con artists pretending to actually be in contact with spirits and mislead people for profit.

If you’ve picked some pointers about Magic Tricks that you can put into action, then by all means, do so. You won’t really be able to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don’t use it.

Crosswords for Keeping the Mind Healthy

If you have been doing crosswords for a long time now, you might have noticed that it takes a certain amount of brain activity to process and solve all the clues and finish filling up all the white boxes on the puzzle grid. So the question of does crosswords keep the mind healthy has been one of the more frequent ones being linked to crosswords.

Studies have been conducted on how certain activities enhance or influence the brain. Now it is common knowledge that the brain becomes dull when left unused, which may not be the best term to use but the simplest one to help drive the point. It is also a known fact that most elderly people who have kept their minds and body active are livelier and healthier compared to those who did not but belong to the same age.

Of course, crossword puzzles are not the only thing that can keep the mind active. Others involve mathematics other than word play. But crosswords apply to most people since not all are mathematical geniuses or have the stomach to tackle numbers, fractions, and equations. So, most people prefer tackling crossword puzzles instead. Now as people, especially the elderly, practice crossword puzzle solving everyday, they will eventually become good at it. The feeling of satisfaction and sense of accomplishment can also help the emotional and psychological well-being of the elderly.

This health of mind relationship with crossword puzzles has already been explored with various diseases. The possible influences the game has on the brain and how it relates to a healthier and longer life is still not conclusive. Nonetheless, some findings suggest that activities that engage the brain to process helps people remain sharp and mindful.

If your Crossword Puzzles facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Crossword Puzzles information slip by you.

Although, some studies and experts negate what people think about crossword puzzles and brain or overall health. The fact of the matter is that there are no conclusive findings yet which would indicate with finality and assertiveness that crosswords can cure or prevent brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.

According to some studies, what engaging in crossword puzzles can do to the brain is to improve fluency or the ability to find words. Of course, if you do practice crossword puzzles long enough, you get trained and become better at it. So even though crossword puzzles cannot be attributed as the overall direct relief of a certain brain ailment or condition, engaging in such activities still helps improve some of the functions of the brain.

Here are the things we found so far: intellectual activities, including of course, crossword puzzle solving has the potential to prevent brain disease. So even though it is not proven that crosswords can prevent Alzheimer’s, it has been found out that regular brain exercises can actually reduce the risk of contracting the disease by half. Crossword puzzles join activities like chess, board games, card games, sodoku, reading, playing musical instruments, and ballroom dancing.

The key element in keeping the brain healthy and reducing the effect of ageing is the right combination of brain exercise. Crosswords puzzlers are good but it has been found out that no single brain enhancement activity can actually provide a complete brain workout. It is usually a combination of various activities both mentally and physically which can help maintain a sharp and active mind.

Is there really any information about Crossword Puzzles that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.

Is Your Child at Risk of Being Bullied?

Every child is at risk of being bullied no matter what their personality is like. It is estimated by the U.S. Department of Education that over 10% of children in school are at some time the target of a bully. Because bullying can be directed to anyone, you should not assume that your child will never be a target. Many times bullying issues will resolve themselves or grade or school changes will separate the children involved in bullying. Sometimes, however, bullying will remain constant and will cause serious damage, both emotionally and physically, to the victim. Because bullying is such a serious issue, knowing the risk factors for being bullied is important in determining if your child is at an increased risk for being targeted by a bully.

Both boys and girls are most commonly bullied for being different, not fitting in, or lacking social skills. If your child has a handicap, has a hard time making friends, or fitting in with others, they have increased risk factors for being bullied. Children with differences such as small stature, physical defects, or cognitive difficulties are also at an increased risk factors for being bullied. Even if your child conforms to normal standards, they may have increased risk factors for being bullied if they are unpopular or are friends with other children who are bullied. Sometimes bullies even target children who are popular and confident because they are jealous so no child is safe from bullying.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

Another risk factor for being bullied is bullying others. Children who bully others often find themselves as a target of bullying after they have victimized others. If your child bullies others, they may become the target of retaliation and become the victims themselves even after they stop victimizing others because the children they hurt want revenge. Warning signs of bullying behavior include general aggression, impulsiveness, the need to dominate, inability to cope with problems and the inability to empathize with others. If your child seems like the type that would bully others, they have increased risk factors for being bullied because victims often retaliate. Make sure your child understand that bullying is not acceptable and can have serious consequences for the rest of their lives.

If your child has risk factors for being bullied, you should monitor their behavior and look for warning signs of bullying. These signs include withdraw from friends and activities, sudden fear of going to school, unexpected complaints of illness such as stomach pains and headaches, constantly coming home with damaged or missing belongings, and unexplained depression.

Usually bullying can be stopped and long term damages avoided, but in severe cases, both parties can be affected for life. Be sure to teach your child what to do if they are faced with a bully and how to stop bullying behavior so that they will not suffer in the long term from bullying experiences. Don’t assume that your child will never be bullied, sometimes bullying occurs with no warning signs or the victims refuse to talk about it.

Those who only know one or two facts about Bullying can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

Treatment for skin wrinkles

With the advancement and progress in the technology of health and wellness, there are a myriad choice of treatment for skin wrinkles.

Whether it be topical, cosmetic or surgical, there is a broad range of treatments available in the market from just reducing wrinkles to totally eradicating its presence, which would ultimately require surgical treatment.

Here is a list of cosmetic treatments, both medical and surgical, including topical medicines and creams that are available in the market.

Vitamin A Acid- also known as tretinoin, with common brand names like Retin- A and Renova, are among the most common ingredients for wrinkle treatment.

This ingredient, available by prescription, has the longest success record in the treatment of aging skin and removing fine lines, especially in the facial area.

Creams and lotions containing tretinoin must be used continually and diligently.

Initial symptoms may cause redness and peeling, however, the discomfort of the side effects may be reduced my lowering the concentration of the ingredient with the base cream and applying it less often until the skin has adjusted to it.

Alpha-hydroxy acids, also termed as ?fruit acids’, include active ingredients like glycolic and lactic acid.

Medical preparations containing these fruit acids are safer alternatives and cause very little or no skin irritation at all, however, effects are not as significant, though.

Antioxidants- these are basically topical preparations that contain vitamins like A, C and E, as well as beta-carotene. These are commonly coupled with sun protection and provide mild treatment for fine wrinkles.

There are also ordinary moisturizers that claim to reduce wrinkles, however, moisturizers that do not contain any of these topical ingredients or substances can only mask or hide wrinkles temporarily and only reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Wrinkles now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

There are also cosmetic procedures readily available in the market, usually offered by dermatological experts or medical practitioners.

Glycolic acid peels- Although this form of treatment involves hands-on application, these superficial peels can only make slight effects in the intensity and degree of fine wrinkles.

Deeper peels- This skin peel process involves the use of chemical substances like salicylic acid and trichloroacetic acid that penetrates deeper into the skin.
It is believed that the deeper the treatment penetrates into the skin, the more effective it gets in smoothing out the fine lines of wrinkles, however, the deeper the peel, the greater risk of having side effects, among them, long-lasting pigment changes or changes in the color of the skin and scarring.

These peels generally do not require anesthetics, however, patients can request for mild sedation to help ease short-term but painful treatment process.

Microdermabrasion- this process primarily involves ?scrubbing the skin’ using a machine containing silica or aluminum crystals that is being used to ?sand’ the skin.

These services are often offered in packages of six to seven treatment sessions and does not change skin anatomy or generally have chemically-adverse effects, but does guarantee to make skin feel smoother.

Over the counter cosmetic products that are being sold as ?home microdermabrasion’ are just mild exfoliants and are generally harmless but are less likely to produce significant, sometimes barely noticeable, changes in wrinkles.

Dermabrasion ? this is the real surgical process usually performed by medical practitioners, mostly plastic surgeons or licensed dermatology practitioners, under general anesthesia.

This surgical treatment involves the deft hands and skill of the treating physician, using a rotating instrument to sand the skin down.

Dermabrasion can produce excellent results, however, a greater risk is involved in the process, since it can produce significant side effects like scarring and permanent changes in skin color.

With the many treatments for skin wrinkles, people now have several choices as to which one to choose should they decide to choose the right treatment that would suit them.

Knowing enough about Wrinkles to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor. If you apply what you’ve just learned about Wrinkles, you should have nothing to worry about.

Crosswords as a Learning Tool

In today’s world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.

Crossword puzzles are not just puzzles. Sure, when the first crossword puzzle came in 1913, the intention was to add some for of entertainment in the pages of The New York Globe. And years after that, crossword puzzles became a phenomenon and entered a fad phase. It became such a popular game that libraries fell short of banning people from accessing reference books since they were disturbing those who legitimately need dictionaries and encyclopedias like students, professors, and researchers.

Today, however, the crossword is still a popular medium of entertainment and some people feel that their day is just not complete if they don’t finish a puzzle on their favorite daily newspaper. But crosswords can be more than that. Crosswords as a learning tool can in fact be explored further since the practice of such in a classroom can yield some encouraging and interesting results.

As an educator, you have the responsibility to pass on your knowledge and skills to your students. There are a number of tools at your disposal as well as teaching techniques in order to maximize the absorption and increase the understanding of what you are teaching. May it be English literature, physics, Chemistry, biology, or mathematics, students need to grasp the general concepts, theories, and facts about their field for them to successfully apply their skills when they face the real world after graduation. It is on the educator’s hands to teach or moderate learning.

In some courses, creating crossword puzzles can totally work to increase the learning curve. The difficulty of each puzzle will depend on the level of the students. But, crossword puzzles can be tailored fit for every possible subject. Through creating customized word puzzles, both teachers and students can study their curriculum through a whole new method.

Now that we’ve covered those aspects of Crossword Puzzles, let’s turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

The good thing about crossword puzzles is that they encourage logical thinking. And of course vocabulary can be enhanced and the practice of writing the correct spelling is also a benefit. Reasoning and deduction are also being honed in crossword puzzles. When applied to a certain subject as a teaching tool, students will be able to remember specific subjects, theories or ideas related to their course since in order to fill in the boxes in a crossword grid, people need to answer the clues first which can refer to terms related to the course.

The puzzles are also less intimidating tools for teaching which works well on some people. But expect that some students will not appreciate having this as one of your learning tools. Nonetheless, with crossword puzzles, students will be able to practice their skills in evaluating options and of course drawing up possible conclusions. These of course come from improved deduction skills.

Although, a little minor effect, crossword puzzles can also encourage students to hit the books to get the right answers. Encouraging them to read more on their own is a good thing for any teacher and is beneficial in the long run for students.

Puzzle solving can also be applied outside the classroom. It can be used for adult education especially in areas where people are already hesitant to new knowledge and skills being comfortable with what they have today. The possibilities of using crossword puzzles to teach and educate can still be explored and the techniques further improved.

Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about Crossword Puzzles. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important.

The lowdown on wrinkles

What can be a more refreshing way to relieve one’s self of the daily grind of work than to go out to the beach and stay in the sun?.but wait till you hear the lowdown on wrinkles.

It is a fact that skin ages, as much as our physical appearance and it does that all over our body, especially on parts of the skin that is most often exposed to the sun.

These ageing come in the form of changes brought on by sun damage called photoaging, characterized by dryness or roughness, sagginess, skin growths called ?liver spots’ or keratoses and ? commonly ? wrinkles.

There are two categories for wrinkles, which involves two varying degrees of wrinkle development, which are fine surface lines and deep skin furrows, for which common and general wrinkle treatments are more effective for the former, but the latter would require more aggressive treatments like long-term dermatological or plastic surgery.

Among the primary factors that contribute to skin wrinkles are smoking, which dries out the skin since it reduces moisture; skin type as well, since people with light-colored skin and blue eyes are susceptible to sun damage; hereditary peculiarities since there are family lines that are more prone to skin wrinkles; hairstyle, which obviously depends on how much skin is covered by the hair and protected from the sun; dress style, since this will also determine how much skin is covered or left exposed to the sun; and finally, recreational and occupational sun exposure that may spans over a period of years.

Currently, there are a lot of treatments available in the market today, both over the counter and prescription treatments, among them, Vitamin A acid, alpha hydroxy acids, antioxidants and moisturizers.

These treatment methods also include cosmetic procedures like glycolic acid peels deep
peels, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, surgical procedures and the ever popular Botox.

There is a popular belief that chronic stress can be a cause of aging in people, thus, the appearance of skin wrinkles, but most of these evidences are not specifically based on scientific findings, rather, more on people’s observations and perceptions.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Wrinkles story from informed sources.

There is, however, a little-known yet significant study back in 2004 that established the link between between chronic stress and aging.

The study revealed that telomeres, these are structures located at the end of chromosomes that6 shorten with aging, also tend to shorten prematurely in subjects that are subjected to long-term psychological stress, resulting to prematurely ?aging’ cells.

Although the results of this study shows a link between cellular aging and stress, the direct relationship of stress on aging is far complex and has not yet been fully understood nor backed with incontrovertible findings.
However, it could still be considered an ounce of prevention to keep stress at bay, since it can indeed have adverse effects on physical and emotional health.

Anybody concerned about getting wrinkles or other signs of aging should still be advised to practice a healthy and, better, a stress-free lifestyle or if not possible, even just keeping stress levels under control.

Finally, exposure to ultraviolet light, whether UVA or UVB, from sunlight accounts for most symptoms of premature skin aging, especially since most of the photoaging effects occur by the late teenage years around 19-20 years and so on.

Thus, the amount of damage to the skin, especially the presence of wrinkles is determined by the total lifetime of exposure to radiation and the person’s pigment protection.

These may be the lowdown on wrinkles, but don’t be anxious, with all the tips and treatments available everywhere, there’s no need to hide and fear wrinkles.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing–the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.

Why Do Children Bully?

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding Bullying. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about Bullying.

There are many reasons children bully others. They can have strained home lives, not be getting enough attention at home, or have other family issues. Children who come from abusive homes or whose parents use violence to solve problems also may bully others. The most commonly thought of reason children bully is because they have low self esteem or a poor self image but many times bullies are confident and popular and pick on children who are smaller and unpopular. Children may also bully because they witness violence at home or do not know any other way to deal with stress. If children are not taught the proper way to solve problems, they may resort to violence and bullying. Bullying is a serious issue that can have serious consequences and should be treated as such.

Other reasons children bully are to compensate for their own problems, to gain a feeling of power, or to make themselves feel better. They turn to bullying as a way to solve these problems because it seems like the best way. Being mean spirited or emotionally unstable are also reason children bully because bullying is actually enjoyable to them. Children may find happiness in the misery of others. If children have learning problems, poor social skills, or problems fitting in they may also bully others to make themselves feel better about their social situation.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Bullying, keep reading.

Sometimes the reason children bully is because they are being picked on themselves and they will retaliate by bullying others. This is a common way that the cycle of bullying continues and that children who would not normally bully others start to do so. No reason merits bullying, but some children don’t know any other way to deal with their problems.

The most important thing to remember when dealing with a child that bullies is that their motive may be different from the norm and the underlying problem must be resolved in order to stop the bullying cycle. The reason children bully is the key to stopping them, so if your child is a bully make sure you identify exactly why they feel as though they should bully others. Solving the underlying problem will give children the relief from their problems they need without having to resort to bullying. Give your child positive ways to deal with problems and stress so they don’t have to use bullying. Children who are stopped quickly are much less likely to suffer from long term effects of bullying.

Stopping bullying is important not only for the victims of bullying but for the bullies themselves. Children who bully often have problems later in life and end up committing crimes and continuing their cycle of aggression. Stopping a bully while they are young and making them realize the consequences of their actions is important to prevent future trouble. No matter why a child bullies, they should be made aware that bullying is not acceptable and given better ways to cope with their problems. Make sure you address the problem that is causing the bullying so that it doesn’t continue.
